Ítem Acceso abierto Effect of the overload of the nursing professional in the occurrence of adverse events in patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-08-04) Agip Cabrejos, Alina Edith; Osorio Astuquipan, Fiorella Maira; Matta Solis, Hernán HugoObjective: To examine the evidence about the effect of nursing professional workload on the occurrence of adverse events in patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit. Materials and methods: A quantitative retrospective observational systematic review, subjected to critical evaluation and identification of its certainty, was found in the different data sources: Pubmed, Epistemonikos, Sciencedirect, Cochrane, Scielo. Of the 10 articles methodically evaluated, 20% (n= 2/10) are systematic reviews, 40% (n= 4/10) are cohort studies, 30% (n= 3/10) are descriptive/cross-sectional and 10% (n= 1/10) are macro data analysis. They are derived from the countries of Spain (30%), followed by Brazil (30%), Belgium (10%), Taiwan (10%), Turkey (10%) and Colombia (10%). Results: According to the evidence found, 100% (n=10/10) indicated that the work overload of the nursing professional has a direct impact on care, causing adverse events such as: pressure ulcers, medication errors, hospital infections; affecting the quality of patient care. Conclusion: The work overload of the nursing professional in intensive care units influences the occurrence of adverse events; thus impacting the quality of patient care.
