Ítem Acceso abierto Efficiency of biological indicators in the quality of sterilization of surgical medical material(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 1905-07-09) Paiva Vite, Rosa Isabel; Poma Morales, Erika Karina; Mendigure Fernández, JulioObjective: Determine the effectiveness of the use of biological indicators in the quality of sterilization of surgical medical material. Material and methods: Systematic Reviews are an observational and retrospective research design, which synthesizes the results of multiple primary investigations. Results Biological indicators serve to verify the effectiveness of the sterilization process and guarantee that a material is sterile. They consist of standardized preparations of spores of very resistant microorganisms, which are processed in the sterilizer to check whether or not they have been destroyed and, therefore, whether or not the sterilization process has been carried out. Conclusions: Biological indicators are effective and the only means available to confirm the sterilization of an article.
