    Functional capacity refers to the autonomy that older adults have in their personal and social lives, while dependence refers to the loss of autonomy and the need for assistance. The increase in the older adult population is a significant achievement for humanity but also a concern for society and the World Health Organization. As the years pass, physiological deterioration associated with aging, either genetic or non-genetic, is observed, with older adults experiencing a decline in balance, muscle strength, and walking speed. Thus, the relationship between functional capacity and dependency level in older adults is explored. Variables are measured using the SPPB (Short Physical Performance Battery) for functional capacity and the Barthel Index for dependency level.
