Ítem Acceso abierto Family functioning and coping of patients hospitalized in the ICU of the Institute of Neurological Sciences(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-04) Payano Vivas, Andrea Yuriko; Palomino Taquire, RewardsObjective: To determine the relationship between family functioning and coping in relatives of patients hospitalized in the ICU at the National Institute of Neurological Sciences, 2023. Material and Method: The study follows a hypothetical-deductive method. The population consists of 70 relatives of neurocritical patients hospitalized in the ICU of the National Institute of Neurological Sciences. The survey technique was used, and two instruments were applied: (1) the Family Functioning Test (FF-SIL), developed by Teresa Ortega Veitia et al. in Cuba in 1994 and modified by Elia Machacca Huacarpuma, and (2) the Coping and Adaptation Process Measurement Scale by Callista Roy (2004), also modified by Elia Machacca Huacarpuma. Construct validity was established by Elia Machacca Huacarpuma using expert judgment and the Aiken’s V coefficient, with results for family functioning (V=1.00) and coping in relatives (V=1.00). Instrument reliability was assessed using a pilot test on a different study population, yielding Cronbach's alpha values of 0.94 for family functioning and 0.88 for coping. Data collection will be followed by data processing using Microsoft Excel 2021 and SPSS version 26. Descriptive and inferential results will be reported in frequencies and averages (tables and/or figures). Hypotheses will be tested using Spearman's correlation test (Rh0).
