Publicación Acceso abierto Uso medicinal de hojas de Peperomia congona Sodiro “congona” en relación con procesos inflamatorios en usuarios de un mercado de plantas medicinales de Lima, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-04-03) Perales Castañeda, Arnol Stiben; Ñañez del Pino, DanielThe objective of this research was to identify the relationship between the medicinal use of Peperomia congona Sodiro leaves ("Congona") and inflammatory processes among users of a medicinal plant market in Lima, 2022. Method: This is a cross-sectional study with a descriptive-correlational, non-experimental scope and a quantitative, basic, hypothetical-deductive approach, with a sample of 384 users. Data collection was conducted using a survey with a questionnaire as the instrument, and the data obtained were processed using SPSS version 25. Results: Among the 384 users surveyed, 51.3% were female, 51.0% were over 49 years old, 49.2% had a secondary education level, and 63.0% belonged to the middle socioeconomic class. Additionally, 70.8% obtained the medicinal plant through recommendations from family, friends, or neighbors and used its leaves for pain and inflammation. A total of 266 (69.3%) prepared the Congona leaves as an infusion, and 272 (70.8%) administered them orally and topically. Regarding inflammatory processes, 128 (33.3%) of users used Congona leaves for otitis symptoms, 143 (37.2%) for gingivitis symptoms, and 187 (48.7%) for gastritis symptoms. Conclusions: A significant relationship was identified (p=0.000; p<0.05) with a moderate positive correlation (Spearman's Rho = 0.606) between the medicinal use of Peperomia congona Sodiro leaves ("Congona") and inflammatory processes among users of a medicinal plant market in Lima, 2022.
