Ítem Acceso abierto Relationship between the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and d-dimer levels as a severity factor in patients with covid-19 treated in an emergency room at the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, Lima-Peru, April 2021.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-06-04) Portillo Muñoz, Juanita; Champa Guevara, Cesar AlfonsoCOVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by an RNA beta coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2, which affects the respiratory tract and other organs by binding to ACE-2 receptors. In March 2020, the WHO declared it a pandemic due to its rapid spread and the unprecedented global health crisis it caused. The objective of this research project is to evaluate the role, clinical utility, and relationship of two commonly used biomarkers in clinical laboratories—the neutrophil/lymphocyte index and D-dimer levels—as early predictors of COVID-19 severity. This will help stratify patients based on severity, providing healthcare providers with a useful tool for more timely diagnosis and treatment. The study will use a hypothetical-inductive approach, with a quantitative, applied, correlational, cross-sectional, and retrospective design. The sample will consist of patients admitted to the COVID emergency area at the Guillermo Almenara Irigoyen National Hospital, who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data will be collected from electronic medical records and processed using SPSS to analyze the correlation between the two variables.
