Ítem Acceso abierto Grip strength and fall risk in post-covid patients at Almanzor Asenjo Hospital, Chiclayo 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-09-15) Quiñones Tarrillo, Jannyna Isabel; Diaz Mau, Aimee YajairaThe COVID-19 epidemic has altered people's behavior, especially among adults, leading to reduced physical, recreational, and social activities, resulting in isolation. This has particularly affected people aged 65 and older. Although older adults were already at higher risk of falls, the pandemic has worsened this situation due to prolonged inactivity, causing muscle problems and a decrease in functionality, even in healthy individuals. Fall risks are attributed to several factors, including reduced physical activity that compromises stability and increases the risk of severe injuries, especially in the elderly. Grip strength measurement using a dynamometer is crucial for assessing health, nutritional status, and the risk of cardio-metabolic diseases, which affect morbidity and mortality. The loss of weight and muscle mass common in post-COVID-19 patients leads to decreased functionality, dependence, falls, osteoporosis risk, and frailty. In this context, a research project seeks to determine the relationship between grip strength and fall risk in post-COVID-19 patients in Chiclayo in 2022, considering the structural and functional effects of the epidemic.
