Publicación Acceso abierto Relación de la hipofosfatemia y características del inicio de nutrición parenteral de pacientes adultos en el Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo. Lima 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-06-26) Quintana Marin, Diana Mercedes; Velásquez Acosta, Pablo MáximoHypophosphatemia is a metabolic disorder characterized by decreased serum phosphorus in hospitalized, severely malnourished patients. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between hypophosphatemia and the initiation characteristics of parenteral nutrition in adult patients at Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo, Lima, 2022. The research design was non-experimental, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional, and retrospective. Data were collected from 60 clinical records, and Spearman’s correlation test was applied with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results revealed that 81.7% of patients had hypocaloric intake, while 18.3% had normocaloric intake. Low carbohydrate intake was observed in 91.7% of cases, with only 8.3% receiving normal intake. Protein intake was also low in 91.7% of patients and normal in 8.3%, while lipid intake was low in 81.7% and normal in 18.3%. In terms of phosphorus intake, 6.7% of patients had low intake, 91.7% received standard/normal intake, and 1.7% had high intake. In conclusion, hypophosphatemia, depending on its severity (mild, moderate, or severe), was significantly associated with the initiation of parenteral nutrition, particularly with respect to caloric intake and the phosphorus concentration in the solution administered to hospitalized patients.
