Publicación Acceso abierto Determinación de magnesio en adultos de 25 a 64 años de la Urb. Pachacámac del distrito de Villa El Salvador. Noviembre, 2015(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Chuquitaype Mallma, Jenny Lee; Quintanilla Carhuamaca, Laddy Deisy; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelThe objective of this research was to evaluate magnesium levels in apparently healthy adults aged 25 to 64 years in the Pachacámac Urbanization of the Villa el Salvador District. A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, and prospective study was conducted in November 2015 on 100 apparently healthy adults. The concentration of magnesium in blood serum was determined using the UV/VIS spectrometry method. Results show that 71% of the individuals were within the reference values (1.7 to 2.5 mg/dL). A higher concentration of magnesium was registered in the female gender at 62.5%. 42.9% of individuals aged 50 to 64 presented with hypomagnesemia, and 57.1% of the overweight population presented with hypomagnesemia. Regarding the Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR), 61.9% of individuals with android syndrome (apple shape) were found to have hypomagnesemia. A directly proportional relationship exists between food intake and magnesium concentration. If the population adopts a healthier lifestyle and diet, the consumption of magnesium supplements would not be necessary.
