    Critical review: effects of low protein diet and alpha supplementation Keto analogues in the improvement of the intestinal microbiota and the reduction of uremic toxins in patients with kidney disease

    This secondary research titled Critical Review: Effects of Low-Protein Diets and Alpha-Ketoanalog Supplementation in Reducing Uremic Toxins in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease aimed to identify articles that answered the clinical question: Does nutritional intervention with low-protein diets and alpha-ketoanalog supplementation reduce uremic toxin levels in adults with CKD with or without dialysis? The Evidence-Based Nutrition (EBN) methodology was used. Information was gathered from PUBMED, SCIENCE DIRECT, SCOPUS, and SCIELO, and evaluated using the CASPE tool. The randomized clinical trial titled “Ketoanalogs' Effects on Intestinal Microbiota Modulation and Uremic Toxins Serum Levels in Chronic Kidney Disease (Medika2 Study)” was selected, as it has an AI level of evidence and a strong recommendation grade, according to the researcher's expertise. The critical review concluded that nutritional therapy with low-protein diets and alpha-ketoanalog supplementation helps reduce a specific uremic toxin in CKD patients and thereby reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
