A prescription is a legal health document that includes pharmacological or non-pharmacological directions and must be legible. Timely error detection will prevent negative effects on patient health. The objective of this study was to determine prescribing errors in medical prescriptions filled at the Farmacia Universal, Cercado de Lima branch, in 2020. Methodology: The method was deductive-synthetic, with a quantitative approach. The research type was basic, with a descriptive research level and a descriptive, observational-cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 359 medical prescriptions, and a checklist was used for data collection. Results: The results determined that 72.14% of evaluated prescriptions had prescribing errors. Specific errors were identified: illegible handwriting (33.1%); errors related to prescriber data (78.27%); errors related to patient information (97.8%); errors related to medication data (51.3%); and errors related to therapeutic indications (96.1%). Prescription dates were present in 72.7% and absent in 27.3%. Validity dates were present in 1.7% and absent in 98.3%. Conclusion: 72.14% of the evaluated prescriptions had prescribing errors.
