Objective: To determine the relationship between nutritional status and functional capacity level in institutionalized older adults at the Geronto Geriatric Residential Care Center-Canevaro. The study was quantitative, applied in nature, and had a descriptive and correlational design. The study sample consisted of 130 older adults, with two instruments used: nutritional status was assessed using the Mini-Nutritional Assessment (MNA), and functional capacity was identified using the Barthel Index Scale. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed using the SPSS 18.0 statistical package, and the Chi-square (X2) test was applied to establish variable associations at a 95% confidence level. Results: Regarding the demographic profile, 60.8% (79) were male, and 39.2% (51) were female; 54.6% were 80 years or older, and 52.3% were from the city of Lima. Regarding nutritional status, 47.7% (62) of the older adults were at risk of malnutrition, 46.9% had malnutrition, and 5.4% (7) were normal or well-nourished. Regarding functional capacity, 72.3% had moderate dependency, followed by severe dependency in 17.7%. It was determined that there was a statistically significant association between nutritional status and functional capacity.
