Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of a low-intensity walking program on the functional capacity and balance of post-Covid older adults from the Misión Salud polyclinic, 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-11-15) Quispillo Bolaños, Lesly Vanessa; Vera Arriola, Juan AméricoThe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on older adults. The future of older patients recovered from COVID-19 is uncertain, and the clinical manifestations and the impact on the lives and health of older adults are still unclear. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a low-intensity walking program on the functional capacity of older adults post-COVID-19 at the “Misión Salud” polyclinic during 2023. A pre-experimental, correlational, and longitudinal study was conducted. The sample consisted of 80 older adults. The intervention involved a 10-minute walk at each patient's individual pace, twice a week for 4 weeks. The variables were: functional capacity in basic and instrumental activities of daily living and static and dynamic balance. Results showed that a higher number of male adults (51.3%) had neurological diseases (12.0%), which was also the most common post-COVID-19 complication. 56.3% were hospitalized due to COVID-19. A p-value >0.05 indicates no effectiveness of the walking program in functional capacity. However, values of p <0.005 indicated effectiveness in static and dynamic balance. It was concluded that the low-intensity walking program is effective for static and dynamic balance, but not in improving functional capacity in the studied sample.
