This publication had as a main objective to determine the correlation that exists between the variable quality of health care, which is comprised of three dimensions which are healthcare personnel attitudes, interpersonal relationships, and scientific-technical knowhow, with the variable depressive symptoms in inpatients. The type of this study was applied, with a non-experimental and transversal design, with a hypothetico-deductive methodology, and it employed two validated instruments for its data gathering, the Cuestionario de proceso de atención and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. The sample consisted of 80 inpatients from the wards of the Naval Medical Center. A positive correlation (rho= 0.020) was found between the variable quality of health care and the variable depressive symptoms in inpatients of the wards, and there are negative correlations between the dimensions of the variable quality of health care, healthcare personnel attitudes (rho= -0.104), interpersonal relationships (rho= -0.010), and scientifictechnical knowhow (rho= -0.051) and the depressive symptoms variable. It was concluded that there exists a correlation between the two studied variables, and that there exists a protective effect between the three dimensions of the variable quality of health care that alleviate the severity of depressive symptoms, therefore the Naval Medical Centre should further delve in these findings to have a more effective performance as an institution for the benefit of its patients.
