    Scientific evidence on the relationship between pregestational obesity and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. 2022

    This research aims to determine the scientific evidence regarding the relationship between pregestational obesity and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. The study design was a qualitative narrative review, comprising 28 scientific articles published between 2016 and 2022, collected from virtual databases such as Scielo, PubMed, Lilacs, and Elsevier. The GRADE system was used to evaluate the strength of recommendation for each reviewed article. Results: Of the 28 scientific articles, 15 demonstrated a relationship between pregestational obesity and severe preeclampsia or preeclampsia with severity criteria. Additionally, 13 articles associated pregestational obesity with mild preeclampsia or preeclampsia without severity criteria. Conclusions: The present study determined that there is high-level scientific evidence supporting the relationship between pregestational obesity and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Based on the reviewed articles, a strong association was found between pregestational obesity and severe preeclampsia or preeclampsia with severity criteria. A similar association was observed with mild preeclampsia or preeclampsia without severity criteria, though with a lower incidence but still significant.
