Caffeine supplementation and physical performance in athletes with variations of genetic polymorphisms
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-03-25) Recoba Obregón, Paulo Eder; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea Lisbet
Sports caffeine supplementation is suitable to improve physical performance in elite and recreational athletes according to sport classifications (endurance, strength or mixed) to avoid the presence of fatigue. For this secondary research entitled Critical Review: Caffeine supplementation and physical performance in athletes with genetic polymorphism variations", the objective was to identify the effect of caffeine supplementation on physical performance in these types of athletes. Being the clinical question: Will caffeine supplementation (capsules) improve physical performance in elite or recreational athletes with genetic polymorphism variations?, the methodology used was Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) and the databases used for the information search were "PUBMED, MEDLINE, GOOGLE SCHOLAR, EMBASE," reporting 192 clinical investigations from which 12 articles were chosen and evaluated by the critical reading tool CASPE, where finally the randomized clinical trial entitled: Caffeine, CYP1A2 genotype and endurance performance in athletes" was selected; having a level of evidence: AI and Grade of Recommendation: Strong, according to the researcher's experience. It was concluded through critical commentary that caffeine supplementation is recommended to improve physical endurance performance in elite athletes with CYP1A2 genetic polymorphism for homozygotes of the A allele (AA).

Critical review: omega 3 supplementation on the lipid profile in patients with chronic kidney disease with hemodialysis treatment
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-06-07) Recoba Obregón, Paulo Eder; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea Lisbet
Omega-3 supplementation is an adequate nutritional intervention to prevent cardiovascular risks in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing dialysis treatment. This secondary research study titled "Omega-3 supplementation on lipid profile in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis treatment" aimed to identify the effect of omega-3 supplementation on the lipid profile in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis. The clinical question was: Will omega-3 supplementation (capsules) improve the lipid profile (expressed in total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides) in CKD patients on hemodialysis? The methodology used was Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE). The databases used for the literature search were PUBMED, MEDLINE, SCIELO, SCOPUS, DIALNET, reporting 200 scientific studies, selecting 11 articles to be evaluated using the CASPE critical reading tool, with the systematic review and meta-analysis titled "Effect of omega-3 supplementation on oxidative stress and cardiometabolic parameters in chronic kidney disease patients: systematic review and meta-analysis" being selected. This article had an evidence level of BI and a strong recommendation grade, according to the researcher’s expertise. The critical commentary concludes that omega-3 supplementation is recommended for lowering total cholesterol and triglycerides in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis.

Critical review: physical exercise and body composition in cancer patients
(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-04-28) Recoba Obregón, Paulo Eder; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea Lisbet
Physical exercise is an appropriate intervention in cancer patients undergoing treatment or survivors of medical treatment to avoid alterations in body composition. For the present secondary research titled Critical Review: physical exercise and body composition in oncology patients, the objective was to identify the effect of physical exercise prescription on body composition in these types of patients. Being the clinical question: Does physical exercise improve body composition (expressed in muscle mass, fat mass, abdominal perimeter, body mass index, body weight) in cancer patients with treatment or survivors of medical treatment?, the methodology used was of Evidence-Based Nutrition (NuBE) and the databases used to search for information were “PUBMED, MEDLINE, SCIELO, SCOPUS, DIALNET, COCHRANE,” reporting 509 clinical investigations. of which 14 articles were chosen and evaluated by the CASPE critical reading tool, where the systematic review with meta-analysis titled: “Effects of strength exercise in patients with prostate cancer: a meta-analysis” was finally selected; having a level of evidence: BI and Degree of Recommendation: Strong, according to the researcher's experience. It was concluded through critical comment that the prescription of strength exercise is recommended for the decrease in percentage of fat mass (%), decrease in fat mass specifically in the trunk (kg) and increase in lean mass (kg) in patients with cancer. prostate
