According to existing studies, sarcopenia is one of the most prevalent conditions in hospitalized patients, but it is rarely evaluated at the hospital level, being detected late. Sarcopenia, as mentioned above, is a condition not only of the structure but also of the functionality of the muscle mass, and it can affect the person who suffers from it to the point of leading to disability. Compared to the indicators, there is currently a screening that evaluates the risk of presenting this. The validated SARC-F screening consists of evaluating everything from strength to the frequency of falls, to obtain a score, which will determine the presence of sarcopenia. If this condition would be detected in a timely manner, it would be an advantage in favor of health professionals, being able to optimize and treat other nutritional problems, for the general recovery of the patient. The objective of this study is to determine sarcopenia in surgical patients at the Hermilio Valdizán Medrano Regional Hospital during the months of October to December 2022, as well as determine the general characteristics, nutritional status and interpret the SARC-F screening score. After the interpretation of the data collected and analyzed, it was found that of the surgical patients hospitalized at the Hermilio Valdizán Medrano Regional Hospital, 68% present a risk of sarcopenia, are in the age group of 20 to 59 years, and with a higher prevalence are men, with a low percentage of comorbidities and in terms of nutritional status, the adult population, compared to the elderly, obtained a higher percentage of normality
