    Factors associated with malnutrition in elderly adult patients at a hospital in Lima, 2017

    A cross-sectional correlation study was carried out in 115 hospitalized geriatric adults using the MNA (Mini Nutritional Assessment) screening method and biochemical data (albumin and hemoglobin) were analyzed. To define the association between MNA and hospitalization characteristics, sociodemographic factors. The study is carried out, since malnutrition is a frequent problem that can affect the stay and/or the presence of diseases within the hospitalization, to establish the correlation, chi-square was applied. The results obtained are that 61.7% were male, the average age with the highest percentage was 70 to 79 years with (47.8%). The first cause of admission was cardiological in 40 (34.8%), 80.9% had a hospital stay of more than 10 days. According to screening with the MNA, 95.7% of the population is at risk of malnutrition and malnutrition. A correlation of malnutrition (MNA) with age was found p=0.004). It is recommended to use the MNA to assess nutritional status, considering age as one of the factors that affects its evolution.
