Ítem Acceso abierto Nursing interventions in the immobilization of polytraumatized patients in the emergency service of the Ricardo Palma clinic, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-04-18) Robles Arevalo, Lin Ogally; Mori Castro, Jaime AlbertoIntroduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) showed that polytrauma is the result of traumatic events in which there is a high displacement of force, such as falls 56%, traffic accidents 50%, pedestrian collisions 43% and gunshot wounds 35%, among other causes that result in serious injuries worldwide in developed countries as well as developing; it is considered the main cause of death among individuals in the age group of 20 to 40 (1) years, that is, in the most productive years of individuals; for the most part, the victims are men, the incidence of polytrauma being a major cause for concern in emergency areas, due to the economic and social impacts they generate. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) noted that in Latin America, polytrauma is the third leading cause of death in people aged 20 to 44 years, where one in 10 deaths is the result of (2) trauma, with serious injuries to multiple body systems in 10 to 15%; trauma-related injuries cause physical and/or mental disabilities, which may be temporary and lead to death; victims go through a painful process, involving confusion, fear of the unknown and fear of facing death, mutilations, immobilizations and other changes in their identity and bodily integrity derived from trauma, which can affect their ability to self-care (3).
