    Effectiveness of palliative care in improving quality of life in oncology patients

    Objective: To systematize and analyze evidence on the effectiveness of palliative care in improving symptoms in oncology patients. Materials and Methods: Observational and retrospective systematic review, quantitative in nature, critically selected using the GRADE evaluation system to identify evidence grade. The articles were found in PubMed, Science Direct, Lilacs, Scielo, Elsevier, and Epistemonikos. Of the 10 systematically reviewed articles, 60% (n=6/10) are systematic reviews, 20% (n=2/10) are case-control studies, 10% (n=1/10) are randomized controlled trials, and 10% (n=1/10) are cross-sectional studies. The results come from Germany and Argentina (20% each), Mexico (10%), Cuba (10%), the United Kingdom (10%), Spain (10%), Colombia (10%), and the United States (10%). Results: 100% (n=10/10) of the research articles conclude that palliative care is effective. Conclusion: Palliative care has demonstrated effectiveness in improving the overall symptoms of oncology patients.
