Publicación Acceso abierto Relación entre anemia y desnutrición en adultos mayores de la obra social casa de San Martín de Porres, 2025(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-12-17) Ibarra Vargas, Ana Maria; Rubio Huaman, Brillit; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelAnemia in older adults is a common and multifactorial disorder whose prevalence increases with age, exceeding 20% in individuals over 85 years old. Its symptoms are often mistaken for normal aging, making timely detection difficult. Among the associated factors, poor dietary quality stands out, which may lead to malnutrition. Objective: To determine the relationship between anemia and malnutrition in older adults of the Obra Social Casa de San Martín de Porres, 2025. Methodology: A basic, quantitative, cross-sectional, and correlational study was conducted with a census sample of 100 older adults. Surveys and observation guides were applied to assess hemoglobin levels and nutritional status. Results: Of the participants, 77% were male and 51% were between 72 and 81 years old. A total of 86% presented low hemoglobin and 83% had decreased hematocrit levels, confirming anemia in 86% of the sample. Regarding nutritional status, 61% had a BMI >23 kg/m²; however, 9% reported weight loss greater than 3 kg, and 42% were unable to recall. Overall, 63% were at risk of malnutrition in 2025. Conclusions: The relationship between anemia and malnutrition was weak (Cramer’s V = 0.185), suggesting that anemia was not determined exclusively by nutritional status but rather by multiple factors associated with aging.
