    Critical review: chromium intake for improvement in patients with type II diabetes mellitus

    Chromium intake and supplementation helps insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism in these individuals. To better understand how chromium supplementation affects glycemic control rates in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM), a review entitled "Critical Review: Chromium Intake for Improvement in Patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus" was conducted, the clinical question being: is chromium intake effective in the treatment of adults and older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus? The technique used was Evidence Based Nutrition (EBN) and after searching for information in Scielo and Pubmed, 30 articles were found, of which 10 were evaluated using the CASPE tool, finally choosing the Randomized Clinical Trial entitled "Effects of chromium supplementation on glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials". The analysis performed by the investigator revealed that this trial had a strong level of evidence and a grade of recommendation and the critical commentary led to the conclusion that the treatment of this type of diabetes with these doses of chromium had beneficial results in lowering insulin levels.
