    Repercusión de la anemia en el rendimiento académico en alumnos de secundaria del Colegio Nacional Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, 2017

    The objective of this research was to determine the impact of anemia on school performance among secondary education students at the Colegio Nacional Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe in 2017. The study was applied, explanatory, and non-experimental in design. A sample of 226 secondary school students was analyzed. To determine the level of anemia, the cyanmethemoglobin method and the Guest-Wichsebaun method were applied. The students’ academic grades for the school year were collected, and the data were processed using Excel 2016 and SPSS software, applying the chi-square test (p) and Student’s t-test. The results showed that 14% of the population presented decreased hemoglobin and hematocrit levels. Regarding academic performance, 25% of the students exhibited low performance. Among students with low academic performance, a higher percentage was observed in cases with anemia compared to healthy cases, with statistical significance (p-value = 0.000). It was concluded that there is a relationship between anemia and academic performance, with the proportion of failing students being higher among those with anemia than among healthy students.
