Ítem Acceso abierto Frequency of needle-stick accidents among final-year nursing students at Norbert Wiener Private University, 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-11-29) Camarena Capcha, Ena Sara; Sánchez De La Cruz, Talitha Sayana; Borda Izquierdo, AlejandroObjective: To identify the frequency of sharp accidents that occur in nursing students in the last cycles of nursing at the Norbert Wiener University, 2017. Material and method: The population was made up of 151 students in the last cycles of nursing. The instrument was the questionnaire which was created by the researchers. Data processing was carried out with the SPSS version 23 program. Results: More than 50 percent of nursing students in the last cycles had at least one sharp accident, registering up to 4 accidents in some cases. Regarding the characteristics of the accidents, this study found that 74.4% of accidents occurred in the morning shift. 55.1% of the accidents occurred in the medicine service. 53.8% of sharps accidents caused superficial wounds. 60.3% of the accidents occurred in the treatment car and 62.8% of the accidents were caused by needles. Conclusions: More than half of students in the last nursing cycles had at least one sharp accident, registering up to 4 accidents in some cases.
