Publicación Acceso abierto Consumo de chenopodium ambrosioides (paico) y su relación con parasitosis intestinal en pobladores que acuden al mercado San Carlos, SJL-Lima 2025(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2025-11-18) Sánchez Moreyra, Lucy Ebilyn; Ñañez del Pino, DanielThe overall objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the consumption of “Chenopodium ambrosioides” (paico) and intestinal parasitosis in residents who visited the San Carlos market in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima, in 2025. The population consisted of 300 adult consumers of paico, from which a sample of 169 participants was obtained, calculated using the formula for finite populations. The sampling was simple random probability, which ensured that all residents had the same probability of being selected. The method applied was hypothetical-deductive and quantitative, while the research was applied, with a non experimental, cross-sectional design and descriptive-correlational scope. The technique used was a survey, and the instrument was a structured questionnaire that collected sociodemographic information, as well as specific data on paico consumption, its forms of preparation, and the presence of intestinal parasitosis. The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between paico consumption and intestinal parasitosis (Rho = –0.265; p = 0.001). Likewise, the consumption of leaves and stems and preparation as an infusion were associated with a lower prevalence of parasitosis, while the adverse events reported were mild and without significant association. In conclusion, paico was shown to be a traditional resource with therapeutic value against intestinal parasitic infections, constituting an accessible and culturally accepted alternative for the community studied.
