Ítem Acceso abierto Breastfeeding as a postnatal HIV risk factor in newborns of HIV infected women on antiretroviral treatment(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-09-01) Sandoval Flores, Eulogia; Cárdenas de Fernández, María HildaObjective: Methodically investigate the available evidence from studies carried out on nursing intervention to prevent the transmission of HIV in newborns. Material and Method: Systematic review of the 10 scientific articles found on Breastfeeding as a postnatal risk factor for HIV in newborns of HIV-infected women on antiretroviral therapy, which were found in the databases Liilacs, scielo, NCBI; and were tested according to the prospective, descriptive and transversal observational quality of evidence scale. Results: 10 articles were examined, of which 40% were randomized clinical trials, 20% systematic reviews, 10% qualitative research, 10% prospective observational study, 10% cross-sectional study and 10% retrospective cohort. 100% of the articles concluded that the suspension of breastfeeding reduces the postnatal risk of HIV in newborns of HIV-infected women on antiretroviral therapy. Conclusions: There is low adherence to suggestions on breastfeeding in women living with HIV/AIDS, which would be extraordinarily affected by cultural dogmas. These investigations have confirmed that mothers choose traditional infant feeding skills according to their homeland, such as breastfeeding with the introduction of other foods before five months of life or mixed, with the invariable accentuation of the danger of HIV transmission.
