The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between laboratory results for coronary risk and biochemical liver indicators in medical records of patients over 18 years of age at the National Maternal Perinatal Institute, from December 2016 to July 2018, through a descriptive cross-sectional study. Both variables were related using the percentage of cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk with the help of the Framingham table by category, dividing medical records into risk percentage groups of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5%, and 6% and above, showing that 13.5% of the studied population had moderate risk. High levels of triglycerides were found to be related to the coronary risk group, as well as total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and LDL cholesterol. However, when comparing biochemical liver indicators with the CVD risk level, GOT levels did not show a significant statistical relationship, nor did GPT and albumin. Consequently, there was no relationship found between coronary risk laboratory results and biochemical liver indicators.Ítem Acceso abierto Leukocyte count by the sedimentation method and its relationship with the Neubauer chamber method in urine collected in the clinical laboratory of the Perinatal Maternal Institute (INMP) of Lima, 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-08-01) Ramirez Suarez, Klaus Ali Bey; Sandoval Vegas, Miguel HernánUrine analysis is the first and most important laboratory test in evaluating a patient with suspected kidney disease, providing valuable data. Examination of urinary sediment is especially useful for diagnosing urinary tract infections, particularly when detecting asymptomatic bacteriuria, and can also be done using the Neubauer chamber for leukocyte counts. Objective: To determine the relationship between leukocyte counts obtained by the sedimentation method and the Neubauer chamber method in urine samples collected at the Instituto Materno Perinatal (INMP) Clinical Laboratory in Lima in 2017. Materials and Methods: A selection of 68 urine samples from pregnant women was made. This is a quantitative, correlational, and prospective study, using the Pearson correlation test to analyze the relationship between leukocyte counts from sediment and the Neubauer chamber method. Results: A correlation value of 0.730 was found between the sedimentation method and the Neubauer chamber method. The Neubauer chamber achieved 100% sensitivity, 32.6% specificity, 46.3% positive predictive value, 100% negative predictive value, and 57% diagnostic certainty, with positive and negative likelihood ratios of 1.48 and 0, respectively. Conclusion: A good correlation was found between the sedimentation method and the Neubauer chamber method for identifying leukocytes, demonstrating that despite a good correlation, the Neubauer chamber does not apply as a diagnostic test.Ítem Acceso abierto Low-density lipoprotein values (LDL-C) for the formulas of Córdova and Friedewald and its relationship with the directly determined levels in the Advia 1800 equipment, in adult patients treated at a level IV-3 hospital in Lima, 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-08-01) Crisologo Capistrano, Marylyn Lissth; Ortega Perez, Yanet Roxana; Sandoval Vegas, Miguel HernánThe objective of this research was to determine the LDL-c values using the Córdova and Friedewald formulas and their relationship with values directly measured by the ADVIA 1800 equipment in adult patients treated at a level IV-3 hospital in Lima in 2017. It was observed that the ADA criteria had a sensitivity (S) of 83%, a specificity (E) of 100%, a positive predictive value (PPV) of 100%, and a negative predictive value (NPV) of 93%. The incidence rate (IR) was 95%, and the Youden Index (YI) was 0.8. When comparing the WHO criteria, the sensitivity was 32%, specificity was 97%, PPV was 84%, and NPV was 77%. The IR was 78%, and the YI was 0.3. It was observed that older age in pregnant women was associated with higher prevalence of gestational diabetes. The study concluded that significant differences exist in the prevalence of gestational diabetes when using different diagnostic criteria, with the IADPSG criteria showing the highest sensitivity and specificity, followed by the ADA criteria with acceptable indices, while the WHO criteria showed critical values for detecting gestational diabetes.Ítem Acceso abierto Prevalence of prediabetes according to ADA criteria and cholesterol and triglyceride levels in an occupational health clinic in the district of Lima - 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-09-07) Damian Salazar, Juan José; Ibañez Purizaga, Arlette; Sandoval Vegas, Miguel HernánThe prevalence of prediabetes by sex is more common in males (9.2%). Hypercholesterolemia was found in 11.1%, and hypertriglyceridemia in 20% of prediabetic patients. A relationship was observed between prediabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertriglyceridemia in male patients. The prevalence of prediabetes was compared according to the criteria established by the ADA (American Diabetes Association) and the WHO (World Health Organization), and there was a statistically significant difference between them (Fisher's exact test, p=0.0001), showing that there is a higher prevalence of prediabetes according to the ADA's criteria. Conclusion: Prediabetes has a higher prevalence according to the ADA's criteria, and there is a relationship between it and hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia in an occupational health clinic in Lima district, 2017.Ítem Acceso abierto Proteinuria by the method of sulfosalicylic acid and its relationship with glomerular filtration calculated by several formulas in pregnant women at a Maternity Hospital in Lima, 2017(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-10-10) Ruiz Yarlequé, Patricia; Bazán Estrella, Kateryn Nataly; Sandoval Vegas, Miguel HernánThe objective was to determine the relationship between proteinuria by the sulfosalicylic acid method and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) calculated by several formulas in pregnant women at a maternity hospital in Lima in 2017. This is an applied, observational, retrospective, descriptive, and correlational study. A total of 244 results meeting the selection criteria were collected. Of these, 64% presented proteinuria by the sulfosalicylic acid method, 5.7% had traces, and 30.3% were negative. Using different GFR formulas, the proteinuria results were correlated, and no relationship was found between the study variables (ANOVA, p > 0.05). Therefore, this method is not a useful tool when a test is needed to accurately identify renal function in pregnant women. For a better study of this test and comparison with GFR formulas, it is recommended to conduct a study with absorbance readings of the test (ASS), which would provide a quantitative result and greatly assist in the diagnosis of renal function.Ítem Acceso abierto Reference intervals of the female hormonal profile with electro chemoluminescence methodology in a population of fertile age at the Swiss Lab, Miraflores headquarters, 2020.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-10-29) Cerda Alvarez, Sandra Paola; Sandoval Vegas, Miguel HernánFor female hormonal profile testing, it is crucial to evaluate the commercial reference intervals, as the aim is to achieve uniform interpretation of results across the female population.
