Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of dry cord care to prevent umbilical infection in newborns(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-12-02) Mendoza Albiño, Cristina; Saravia Munayco, Liliana; Pretell Aguilar, Rosa MaríaObjective: Systematize the available evidence from studies carried out on dry healing of the umbilical cord to prevent omphalitis in neonates. Material and Methods: The systematic review of 10 scientific articles found on dry care of the healing of the umbilical cord for the prevention of omphalitis in neonates, were cited in the following databases Pubmed, Epistemonikos, Lilacs, Scielo; All of them were analyzed according to the Grade scale to determine their strength and quality of evidence. Results: Of the 10 articles reviewed and analyzed, 60% (n=6/10) are systematic reviews, 20% (n= 2/10) are randomized clinical trials (RCTs) and systematic reviews, and 20% (n= 2/10) is a randomized clinical trial (RCT). Of the 10 articles found, 80% point out the effectiveness of dry care of the umbilical cord for the prevention of omphalitis in newborns, 10% indicate that it is partially effective and 10% conclude that dry cure is not effective to prevent omphalitis. Conclusion: 8 of 10 articles found point out the effectiveness of dry care of the umbilical cord for the prevention of omphalitis in newborns, in developed countries; 1 in 10 indicate that it is partially effective and only 1 in 10 conclude that dry healing is not effective in preventing omphalitis.
