    Evidence-based nursing interventions to prevent ventilator-associated pneumonia in critically ill adults

    Objectives: To analyze and systematize the effectiveness of nursing interventions in preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia in critically ill adults. Materials and Methods: Data collection was performed through a systematic review. The search was conducted using full-text articles, and the selected articles were subjected to a critical reading, using the GRADE evaluation to determine their level of evidence. Results: A total of 10 articles were selected, all of which were high-quality systematic reviews with strong evidence and recommendations. They were found in the following databases: PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, and Scielo. 100% of the studies show that nursing interventions, such as the use of chlorhexidine mouthwash and the semi-recumbent position at a 45° angle, as well as other nursing interventions, reduce the risk of developing ventilator-associated pneumonia in critically ill patients. Conclusions: The best available evidence demonstrates the effectiveness of nursing interventions in preventing ventilator-associated pneumonia in critically ill adults.
