Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of individual and group educational techniques with the use of teaching materials in learning about oral health in parents of children aged 6 to 13 in Lima, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-05) Ludeña Gallegos, Fiorella Pamela; Sotomayor Woolcott, Peggi MargretMaterials and Methods: This is an applied, quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional, and prospective study. Knowledge was measured using a 20-question questionnaire, with each question valued at 1 point, classifying scores as Low (0–7 points), Regular (8–14 points), and High (15–17 points). Results: The sample consisted of 120 parents who received the questionnaire. The results showed that regarding the effectiveness of the educational techniques applied individually and in groups using teaching materials for learning oral health in parents of children aged 6 to 13 years in Lima, 2021, it was found that initially, most parents presented regular learning with 40%, and after applying the technique, 40% of participants achieved high learning. In group sessions, regular learning was observed initially, and after the technique, regular learning remained at 53.3%. The effectiveness of both individual and group educational techniques was significant, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). It was found that most participants aged 18 to 29 years and 30 to 59 years initially had regular knowledge, which improved to high knowledge after the intervention. Similarly, individuals with no formal education, primary, secondary, and technical or higher education began with regular knowledge, which improved to high knowledge after the application of the technique. Conclusion: It is concluded that there is effectiveness in both individual and group educational techniques with the use of teaching materials for learning oral health in parents of children aged 6 to 13 years in Lima, 2021.Ítem Acceso abierto Gingival enlargement in patients with orthodontic appliances fixed in Famidental, Los Olivos, 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-04-15) Becerra León, Giannina María; Sotomayor Woolcott, Peggi MargretThe objective of this research was to determine the frequency of gingival enlargement in patients with fixed orthodontic appliances treated at a private dental clinic in Los Olivos, Lima, in 2021. Materials and Methods: The study was observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, prospective, with a quantitative approach, conducted with a sample of 100 patients. A questionnaire was given to collect basic information such as sex, age, and duration of bracket use. A periodontal examination was then performed, measuring the probing depth of all permanent teeth using an OMS periodontal probe. Any value greater than 3 mm was considered gingival enlargement, according to previous studies. Results: It was found that 56% of the patients evaluated had gingival enlargement, while 44% did not present any gingival enlargement. Conclusion: Patients with fixed orthodontic appliances show a localized frequency of gingival enlargement.Ítem Acceso abierto Self-perception of the quality of oral health in patients with a vegan diet who are treated at Consultorio Moldent – Bellavista, Peru 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-10) Medina Pinto, Lourdes Sofia; Sotomayor Woolcott, Peggi MargretThe objective of this study was to determine the relationship between oral health quality in vegan patients attending the Moldent clinic in 2022. The methodology applied was analytical with a quantitative approach, using data collection and analysis to answer the research questions and test the hypotheses established previously. The sample consisted of 78 patients attending the Moldent clinic who met the following inclusion criteria: vegan diet, adult age, and patients who agreed to participate in the study. Results: It was found that the correlation between vegan diet and self-perception of oral health was -0.815, with a significance of 0.00 < 0.05, rejecting the null hypothesis and accepting the alternative. Furthermore, to assess the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach’s Alpha was calculated, yielding a value of 0.931, which is considered high, indicating that the instrument used is appropriate. Conclusion: There is a relationship between the vegan diet and self-perception of oral health, with a high negative correlation of -0.815, meaning that the vegan diet variable is associated with lower self-perception of oral health.
