Ítem Acceso abierto Diagnostic performance of Platelet Indices in the identification of degrees of severity of Gastric Cancer in a hospital center, period 2021 – 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-04-28) Suarez Meza, Freddy Raul; Huamán Cárdenas, Victor RaulStomach cancer is a type of cancer that affects the stomach lining due to the uncontrolled proliferation of its cells, being considered by the WHO as one of the main global health issues. Timely diagnosis, follow-up, and evaluation of people at risk for stomach cancer are essential, and laboratories play a critical role in this process, offering tests for clinicians. The role of platelets in inflammatory processes related to neoplasms is currently being discussed, and it is likely that platelet activation by neoplastic cells contributes to metastasis and cancer progression by stimulating deep vein thrombosis, thrombo-inflammation, and the formation of neutrophil extracellular traps that hide cancer cells. The information provided by platelet analysis is important, as these values can indicate the severity level developed by a person with stomach cancer and potentially improve therapeutic strategies. However, these markers are still under investigation and should be complemented with clinical and epidemiological data to help forecast patient health and provide more personalized treatment.
