Ítem Acceso abierto Polypharmacy and medication risks in older adults(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2018-11-04) Sanchez Chipana, Maria Carolina; Torres Avalos, Edith; Calsin Pacompia, WilmerObjective: Analyze and systematize the evidence on polypharmacy being the greatest risk of medication in the elderly. Material and Methods: Systematic reviews are a form of research that compiles and provides a summary on a specific topic (aimed at answering a research question); They must be carried out according to a pre-established design. It is a systematic review of 10 selected articles, using the Pubmed, Open Access, Researchgate, Wiley Online Library, Online Library, Scielo, Epistemonikos and EBSCO databases. The 10 articles selected are quantitative research, 40% (4) are systematic review, 30% (3) are cohort, 20% (2) case control and 10% (1) are cross-sectional. Results: In this systematic review, according to the evidence found, it is concluded that the greatest risk of medication in the elderly is polypharmacy, which represents 100% (16 - 25), followed by age, 80% (17 -24). , gender 50% (19 - 23), then there are psychiatric disorders, comorbidities, functional situation, cognition and the use of non-pharmacological measures. Conclusion: Polypharmacy is the greatest risk of medication in the elderly, followed by age, gender, psychiatric disorders, comorbidities, functional status, cognition and the use of non-pharmacological measures.
