    Body Mass Index (BMI) and the determination of hemoglobin and hematocrit provide important information on the nutritional status of elderly adults. BMI indicates whether an elderly adult is undernourished, overweight, or obese, while hemoglobin and hematocrit contribute to the diagnosis of anemia. The objective of the present study was to establish the relationship between BMI and hematological values of Hemoglobin (Hb) and Hematocrit (Hct) in elderly adults from the nursing home “Hermanitas de los Ancianos Desamparados” in Callao. Hb, Hct, and BMI parameters were determined using the cyanmethemoglobin method, microhematocrit method, and Quetelet index, respectively, in 34 elderly adults of both sexes, with informed consent. The results showed that hemoglobin levels were decreased in 38.2% of the study population, predominantly in the age group of 90–96 years. Similarly, hematocrit levels were reduced in 17.6% of the population, also more frequent in the same age group. Regarding BMI, results indicated that 91.2% of the elderly presented BMI values ranging between undernourished and normal, while 8.8% showed values between obesity and overweight. When comparing hematological parameters (hemoglobin and hematocrit) with BMI, no statistical concordance was found between Hb and BMI (p=0.345), nor between Hct and BMI (p=0.362).
