    Effectiveness of nursing interventions to prevent pneumonia in patients with mechanical ventilation.

    Objectives: Systematize studies showing the available evidence on the effectiveness of nursing actions to prevent pneumonia in patients with mechanical ventilation. Materials and Methods: The total population is determined by 15 scientific articles published in documents and disclosed in electronic journals, with an age not exceeding 10 years, and articles published in Spanish and English. The articles observed are of retrospective and descriptive observational design to provide the scientific articles using descriptors such as preventive measures, effectiveness, nursing actions to prevent pneumonia in patients with mechanical ventilation. Results: The articles found demonstrate that they were found in the following databases: Medline, Elsevier, PubMed, Cochrane, Lilacs, Scielo, and were analyzed according to the GRADE scale to determine their strength and quality of evidence. Of the 15 articles reviewed, 60% (9/15) of the articles agree that healthcare staff, nurses, demonstrate effective measures to prevent VAP through scientific knowledge, while 40% (6/15) show that a combination of strategies in nursing activities is essential to prevent VAP, improving care processes to reduce pneumonia. Conclusions: Of the 15 articles reviewed, 80% (12/15) provide evidence that nursing staff adequately comply with the necessary measures due to various experiences and scientific knowledge in preventing pneumonia in patients with mechanical ventilation.
