Lima 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-07-20) Turpo Apaza, Angel Raúl; Cano Pérez, Carlos AlfredoThe objective of this research was to evaluate sleep quality and the use of psychotropic drugs among Pharmacy and Biochemistry students. The research method was deductive, with a quantitative approach and a non-experimental design. A virtual survey was applied to a sample of 325 students. It was found that 58.7% reported poor or very poor subjective sleep quality; 67.3% took more than 30 minutes to fall asleep on one or more nights per week; 36.9% slept between 5 to 6 hours; 39.1% slept more than 6 hours, and 24% slept less than 5 hours; 50.5% had sleep efficiency greater than 85%; 77.2% of respondents reported some type of sleep disturbance; 76.9% did not use medication to sleep; 51.4% reported daytime sleepiness while performing daily activities; and 40.6% indicated experiencing mild mood problems. Finally, 17.2% of respondents reported having used psychotropic drugs in the past month. It is concluded, based on the global score of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, that 63.7% of students require medical attention and treatment, 24% require medical follow-up, and 4.3% present a severe sleep disorder. Furthermore, the most commonly used psychotropic drugs were anxiolytics and antidepressants.
