    The objective was to determine the relationship between somatic pain with the use of medicinal herbs in adults over 40 years of age who attend the Miguel Grau Market, Independencia. Method. The hypothetical deductive method was used, quantitative approach, non-experimental design, basic type, correlational scope, cross section, sample of 162 adults, through surveys and use of a questionnaire the data was collected, Spearman's Rho analysis was used to contrast the hypothesis. Results. Of 162 adults, 33.3% were aged between 51-60 years; somatic pain was mild in the arms and shoulders in 35.8% and in the head in 51.9%; It was moderate; in ankle and knee 46.3%; in the spine and/or hip 40.7%; in neck 43.8%. The Perception of somatic pain was mild, throbbing in 36.4% and burning in 38.9%; It was moderate in type of oppression 30.2%; numbness 38.9%. Use of medicinal herbs for relief of somatic pain; 27.2% used turmeric, 44.4% used fennel; 42% ginger, 25.3% nettle and 11.1% moringa. Part of the medicinal herb used; 18.5% the leaves; 11.1% the bark; 27.2% the seeds and 42% the flowers. In preparation of the medicinal herb, 24.7% in the form of a decoction, 27.2% in infusion; 42% topical and 25.3% macerated in ethanol. A significant relationship was identified between somatic pain and the use of medicinal herbs (p=0.000; rho=0.833). Conclusion. There was a high positive relationship between somatic pain and the use of medicinal herbs in adults over 40 years of age.
