Ítem Acceso abierto Critical review: Protective effect of vitamins c, d, e and selenium in thyroid cancer(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2021-03-16) Uribe Salas, Arturo Alejandro; Bohórquez Medina, Andrea LisbetGlobally, thyroid cancer ranks sixth in incidence for 2018, occurring in 3.7% of the population. Likewise, it is located in ninth place in relation to the appearance of new cases, and the increase in them has been observed constantly in the last forty years. Although thyroid cancer is not the most common cancer, it is one of the most diagnosed among endocrine cancers. Because cancer is characterized by an increase in oxidative stress and the formation of free radicals, the possibility has been seen that antioxidant micronutrients may play an important role in the prevention and management of thyroid cancer. It has been shown that the intake or supplementation of vitamin D can generate a favorable change seen from a thyroid cancer prevention perspective. The objective was to find in the scientific literature an association of vitamins C, D and E and selenium with the risk of thyroid cancer or to find a protective effect of vitamins C, D and E and selenium in the treatment of thyroid cancer. Using the NUBE methodology, scientific literature on the relationship of vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E and selenium in the risk and treatment of thyroid cancer was integrated from systematic reviews and clinical trials. This research guides health professionals to know a possibility or finding of the nutritional interventions available to be applied for the prevention and nutritional treatment of thyroid cancer.
