Publicación Acceso abierto Niveles de colesterol total, bilirrubinas totales y fraccionadas en adultos aparentemente sanos del asentamiento humano Papa León XIII Chilca – Cañete. Junio, 2018(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-07-03) Díaz Mego, Marina; Valenzuela Flores, Lesabet Juarina; Parreño Tipián, Juan ManuelCholesterol and bilirubin analyses are two of the most frequently requested tests to determine metabolic pathologies such as cardiovascular and hepatic diseases in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Objective: To determine the levels of cholesterol, total and fractionated bilirubins, and their correlation in apparently healthy adults from the Papa León XIII Human Settlement in Chilca-Cañete in 2018. Method: The method developed was a descriptive, correlational, and cross-sectional study conducted using the enzymatic and colorimetric method via UV-Visible spectrophotometry. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 24. The study sample demographics were: 54.1% adults, 25.2% older adults, and 20.7% young adults, with 80.2% females and 19.8% males. Results: 17.1% to 33.3% (95% CI) of the population had elevated total cholesterol, and total bilirubin levels were elevated in 15.5% – 31.3% (95% CI). Conclusion: High cholesterol levels were present in adults between 17.15% to 33.3% (95% CI) and in older adults at 39.3%. High total bilirubin values fluctuated between 15.5% to 31.3% (95% CI). An association was determined between cholesterol and age group (p=0.044), but no association was found with gender (p=0.396). An association was found between direct bilirubin and gender (p=0.025). A direct correlation exists between cholesterol values and bilirubin values.
