Ítem Acceso abierto Level of functionality and the level of quality of life in patients with spinal cord injury of “Luis N. Saenz“ PNP National Hospital, period February - March 2021(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2023-05-24) Chuquillanqui Paulino, Beatriz Martina; Valverde Berrocal, Madeleine Rosario Blanca; Granados Carrera, Julio CesarThe objective of this study was to determine the relationship between functionality level and quality of life in spinal cord injury patients at the National Hospital “Luis N. Sáenz” PNP during the period of February - March 2021. Materials and Methods: SCIM III was used to assess functionality and SF36V.2 to assess quality of life. The population consisted of 80 spinal cord injury patients, with a sample of 65. The methodology was hypothetical-deductive with a quantitative, applied, non-experimental approach, and a cross-sectional correlational design. Data were analyzed using SPSS software and Spearman’s Rho was used to determine correlations. Results: 84.6% of participants were male, 50.8% were 51 years or older, 63.1% were married, and 86.2% were employed. Clinically, 55.4% of patients had complete spinal cord injuries, and 72.4% were paraplegic. Etiologically, 76.9% had traumatic causes, with 43.1% due to traffic accidents. Regarding injury duration, 58.5% had been injured for 9 years or more. The most common secondary complications were muscle shortening (26.4%) and urinary infections (25.9%). Conclusions: A direct correlation was found between functionality and physical quality of life in spinal cord injury patients (p value = 0.046), but no correlation was found between functionality and mental quality of life.
