Ítem Acceso abierto Occupational risks faced by nursing staff working in the sterilization center.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2017) Vargas Chicoma, Lucila Estela; Vásquez Bazán, Denys Lizeth; Gómez Gonzales, Walter EdgarObjective: To determine the occupational risks to which nurses working in sterilization centers are exposed. Materials and Methods: Systematic Reviews are an observational and retrospective research design that synthesizes the results of multiple primary studies. They are an essential part of evidence-based nursing due to their rigorous methodology, identifying relevant studies to answer specific clinical practice questions. The review was systematic, observational, and retrospective, with a search limited to 8 full-text articles. It was found that 50% of the articles came from Brazil, 25% from Peru, and 12.5% from Spain and Honduras. Results: Occupational risks faced by nurses include: Biological Risks, with contamination from injuries and/or needle punctures being the most frequent cause at 69% and the non-use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at 60%; Chemical Risks, due to exposure to sterilizing agents and toxic gases, at 35.9%; Physical Risks, from inadequate lighting (50%), mechanical, vibrations, noise, and thermal risks at 33.3%; Ergonomic Risks, present in 38.3% to 57.3%, with improper postures (18%), falls (22%), and standing for prolonged periods; Psychological Risks, from verbal and physical abuse (61.54%), job insecurity (23.8%), and work overload. Conclusions: The greatest occupational risk for nursing staff working in the Sterilization Center is ergonomic risk, with additional exposure to biological, physical, chemical, and psychosocial risks.
