Publicación Acceso abierto Efecto curativo del extracto hidroalcohólico de hojas de Chuquiraga spinosa Less “intipasapra“ en la hiperplasia prostática benigna inducida por alcohol etílico en ratas(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2015) Mallma Tito, Maria Luz; Vega Espilco, Miguel Angel; Chávez Flores, Juana ElviraChuquiraga spinosa Less., belonging to the Asteraceae family, is traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antifungal, and urinary tract analgesic. The present study was conducted to determine the curative effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Chuquiraga spinosa Less. (“intipasapra”) leaves and to establish the median lethal dose (LD50). The species was collected in January 2015 in the community of Andamarca, at 3,550 m a.s.l., district of Carmen Salcedo, province of Lucanas, department of Ayacucho. Phytochemical analysis revealed phenolic compounds such as flavonoids and tannins, free amino groups, carbohydrates, reducing sugars, alkaloids, steroids and/or triterpenes, and steroidal saponins. The curative effect was determined by inducing benign prostatic hyperplasia with ethanol in Holtzmann rats; the most effective treatment was the hydroalcoholic leaf extract at a dose of 200 mg/kg. The LD50 was established at 5,000 mg/kg by intragastric administration in Mus musculus Balb/C53 mice. Histopathological sections of perfused organs showed no alterations in cardiac tissue, but mild damage was observed in the stomach, brain, and lungs. Chuquiraga spinosa Less. (“intipasapra”) exhibits a curative effect by intragastric administration in benign prostatic hyperplasia and is considered hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic at doses of 5,000 mg/kg body weight, according to this study.
