Ítem Acceso abierto Factors associated with anemia in children under 5 years of age in the health service provider institution I-3 Villa Belén - Iquitos 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-05-30) Vela Ortiz De Orue, Talita Cristina; Cabrera Espezua, Jeannelly PaolaThe main objective of the study is to identify the factors related to anemia in children under 5 years of age at the Institución Prestadora de Servicios de Salud I-3 Villa Belén - Iquitos in the year 2023. A hypothetical-deductive approach, a quantitative method and a non-experimental cross-sectional design with correlational scope were used. The results of the associated factors did not adequately predict anemia in this population, except for nutritional factors. Lack of maternal education was associated with a higher prevalence of anemia, whereas duration of exclusive breastfeeding, early introduction of complementary foods, and intake of iron- and vitamin C-rich foods were associated with a lower incidence of anemia in children. Person-per-room density showed a significant relationship with anemia, but access to safe water and sewerage did not. In addition, a history of malnutrition and prematurity were significantly associated with anemia in children under 5 years of age. The study concludes that anemia in this population is influenced by a combination of factors, including lack of maternal education, duration of exclusive breastfeeding, timely introduction of complementary foods, intake of foods rich in iron and vitamin C, as well as personper-room density. The research provides valuable information for addressing anemia in children under 5 years of age, underscoring the importance of nutritional and educational interventions.
