Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of the use of the cervical collar in the care of the polytraumatized patient with cervical injury.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-10-11) Velasquez Lhi, Johana Paola; Gutierrez Guadalupe, Jessica Haydee; Fernández Rengifo, Werther FernandoObjective: To structure evidence on the validity of using cervical collars in the care of polytraumatized patients with cervical injuries. Materials and Methods: A systematic, observational, retrospective review of a quantitative type, critically selected, using the GRADE evaluation system for identifying the level of evidence. Articles were found in PubMed, Sciencedirect, Scielo, Wiley Online Library, Elsevier, and Epistemonikos databases. Of the 10 articles systematically reviewed, 70% (n=7/10) are systematic reviews, and 30% (n=3/10) are randomized controlled trials. The results show that 80% (n=8/10) indicate that the routine use of cervical collars in polytraumatized patients with cervical injuries should not be implemented. Conclusion: Most studies reviewed indicate a lack of sufficient scientific evidence to support the routine use of cervical collars in the care of polytraumatized patients with cervical injuries. It is suggested that routine spinal cervical immobilization should be phased out in favor of selective immobilization.
