    Características de uso de meropenem y vancomicina en el servicio de emergencia en pacientes adultos del Hospital Cayetano Heredia. Julio–diciembre 2018

    This study aims to characterize the use of meropenem and vancomycin in the emergency service for adult patients at the HCH from July to December 2018. Methodology: A descriptive, cross-sectional retrospective investigation was conducted. Data were collected from 500 records of adult patients treated in the pharmacy service. Results: For drug indication, December showed the highest proportion for meropenem (20.7%), while vancomycin in August reported the highest proportion (19%). The 1 gr administration was the highest proportion for both medications. The main diagnoses for which meropenem and vancomycin were indicated were Soft Tissue Sepsis (10.8%) and Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (11%). For combination therapy with meropenem and vancomycin, the most common diagnoses were Community-Acquired Pneumonia (14.8%) and Urinary Tract Infection (11.1%). Regarding authorization by infectology consultation, 83% of meropenem use was authorized, while 17% was not. For vancomycin-treated patients, 90% were not authorized by infectology, and 10% were authorized. Conclusion: The study demonstrated that usage characteristics and pharmacovigilance are baseline instruments that should be permanent to identify prescribing patterns in the context of bacterial resistance to both antibiotics.
