Ítem Acceso abierto Patient safety culture and adverse event prevention by nursing staff in the surgical center of a private clinic, Lima 2023(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2024-02-09) Ventura Rosales, Elizabeth Zandey; Cabrera Espezua, Jeannelly PaolaObjective: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between patient safety and the prevention of adverse events in the surgical center of a private clinic in Lima in 2024. The population under investigation comprised 80 nursing professionals actively working within the surgical center. Due to the small size of the population, the entire group was included in the study. The methodological approach employed was hypothetical-deductive, adopting a quantitative, descriptive-correlational methodology. This study utilized an applied and non-experimental crosssectional design. To assess patient safety, a survey technique was employed, utilizing the Velasco questionnaire from 2019, which exhibited a high level of reliability with a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.80. For the assessment of the prevention of adverse events, an observation technique was employed, supported by the Mori questionnaire from 2018, which demonstrated reliability with a Kuder Richardson coefficient of 0.865. The analysis of the collected data revealed a low positive correlation between patient safety and the prevention of adverse events, with a correlation coefficient (Rho) of 0.382 and a significance level (p) of less than 0.000. In conclusion, there exists an observable trend wherein an improvement in patient safety tends to coincide with a corresponding improvement in the prevention of adverse events, and vice versa. This observation holds true for nursing professionals within the surgical center of a private clinic in Lima in 2024.
