Ítem Acceso abierto Flexibility of lower limbs and its relationship with Functionality in the Elderly of the Los Girasoles Health Center - Huampaní, 2022(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2022-11-22) Vera Espinoza, Lelia Gabriela; Vera Arriola, Juan AméricoChanges in population pyramids will lead to older adults becoming the largest group in our continent, with values exceeding 20%. Functional capacity in older adults results from the interaction of biological, psychological, emotional, and contextual conditions, which can be evidenced in daily activities, requiring significant support from the lower limbs. The flexibility of the lower limb joints influences the ability to perform functional activities and has been the subject of several studies. The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between functionality and lower limb flexibility. An observational, correlational, and cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 80 older adults. Instruments used included the Barthel Index and flexibility tests for lower limbs. The average age was 73.1 years, with a higher proportion of women. Most participants showed reduced flexibility in the hip, knee, and ankle joints. No statistically significant relationship was found between functionality and lower limb flexibility in the studied sample.
