Ítem Acceso abierto Effectiveness of oral stimulation in the development of the sucking and swallowing reflexes in preterm neonates(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2019-11-19) León Moreno, Haide Goreti; Vilchez Sanabria, María Isabel; Gamarra Bustillos, CarlosObjective: Systematize the evidence on the effectiveness of oral stimulation in the development of the sucking and swallowing reflex. Material and Methodology: A selection of 10 scientific articles was made that were found in the databases: Scielo, Cochrane Plus, PubMed, IntraMed, Ebsco, ProQuest; All these articles were analyzed using the Grade scale. Of the 10 articles reviewed, 40% (n=4/10) correspond to systematic reviews, 40% (n=4/10) correspond to quasi-experimental studies and 20% (n=2/10) correspond to experimental studies. Finally, according to the quality of evidence, 100% (n=10/10) presented high quality in their evidence. Results: In the context of what was presented, it is evident that in 100% of the articles, it is possible to feed premature newborns orally in fewer days, reducing hospitalization time and favoring early discharge. Conclusions: 100% of the articles show that oral stimulation in premature newborns reduces the days of hospitalization and early discharge, (2/10) articles maintain that it improves coordination between sucking, swallowing and breathing), (5 /10) articles show that it has a significant effect on the transition from the orogastric tube to full oral feeding, helping to gain weight and achieving direct breastfeeding upon discharge.
