    Hospital institutions were erected for the maintenance and care of health and life, so they need trained and competent professional personnel with control and management of their mental and emotional state. Certain services such as the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit due to its complexity can produce alterations in physical and mental health, such as work stress which can have an impact on the performance of the worker. The present research aimed to determine the relationship between work stress and the performance of the worker in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital in 2021. It is a correlational, quantitative, non-experimental and cross-sectional study. The validated instruments that were applied were the Questionnaire: Maslash Burnout Inventory (MBI) and a checklist: inventory of Labor performance. The sample was made up of 151 workers. Among the results we found that 72.8% of workers had a tendency to stress (58.9% nurses or technicians and 13.9% doctors). Regarding their dimensions in emotional exhaustion (88.7%) and depersonalization (90.7%), they had a low level, and in personal fulfillment (53.6%) a high level. Likewise, 59.6% of workers registered good performance (49.0% nurses or technicians and 10.6% doctors). Regarding their dimensions in task performance (57.6%), contextual performance (53.6%) and organizational performance (58.3%) showed performance in process. We conclude that there is no significant relationship between work stress and worker performance (p=0.815 p < 0.05) in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Edgardo Rebagliati Martins National Hospital in 2021.
