Ítem Acceso abierto Knowledge and practices of the nurse about the secretion aspiration technique in intubated patients in the critical areas of a hospital in Lima – 2020.(Universidad Privada Norbert Wiener, 2020-10-11) Villanueva Japa, Rossé Maria; Uturunco Vera, Milagros LizbethHospital-acquired respiratory infections are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Peru. Endotracheal aspiration aims to stabilize and maintain airways that facilitate the passage of air, mechanically removing accumulated pulmonary secretions, with particular attention to patients with artificial airways. The nurse, who is responsible for patient care, performs suction in intubated patients and requires proper knowledge and skills to avoid complications that can lead to hospital-acquired infections. Objective: To determine the relationship between the nurse's knowledge and practices regarding the secretion aspiration technique in intubated patients in critical care areas at a hospital in Lima. Materials and methods: This study has a quantitative approach, aiming to assess observable behaviors through the application of a suitable instrument. It is a descriptive correlational type with a cross-sectional design, as data will be collected at a single point in time. The research techniques to be used are the survey and observation. The instruments for each technique will be a questionnaire and a checklist.
