    Effectiveness of non-invasive mechanical ventilation to reduce mortality in patients with post-extubation respiratory failure

    Objective: To analyze the evidence of the effectiveness of non-invasive mechanical ventilation to reduce mortality in patients with post-extubation respiratory failure. Material and Methods: It is a systematic review of 10 selected articles, using the PubMed, Elsevier Researchgate, Open Access database. The 10 selected articles are quantitative research, 50% (5) are Meta-analysis, 20% (2) are systematic reviews, 20% (2) are experimental and 10% (1) are cohort studies. Results: 70% (n = 7/10) evidence the effectiveness of non-invasive mechanical ventilation to reduce mortality in patients with post-extubation respiratory failure. 30% (n = 3/10) show that non-invasive mechanical ventilation does not reduce mortality in patients with post-extubation respiratory failure. Conclusion: the studies determine that non-invasive mechanical ventilation is more effective in reducing mortality in patients with post-extubation respiratory failure, according to the results.
